How would you define artificial intelligence (AI)?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, particularly computer systems. These processes include learning (the acquisition of information and the rules for using it), reasoning (the ability to solve problems through logical deduction), and self-correction. The field of AI encompasses a variety of sub-disciplines, such as Machine Learning (where algorithms improve through experience), natural language processing (the interaction between computers and humans through language), robotics, and computer vision.

AI systems are designed to perform specific tasks, often with human-like capabilities, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and language translation. They can be categorized into two main types: narrow AI, which is designed for specific tasks (e.g., virtual assistants, recommendation systems), and general AI, which aims to replicate human cognitive abilities across a wide range of tasks. Although general AI remains largely theoretical as of now, narrow AI has made significant advancements and is widely implemented across various industries, enhancing productivity and efficiency in areas such as healthcare, finance, transportation, and entertainment.
