I spent 18 months building a design system that makes UI’s feel “oddly satisfying.” Now it’s open source!

Introducing LiftKit: An Open-Source Design System Inspired by the Golden Ratio

After 18 months of dedicated development, I am thrilled to unveil LiftKit โ€” an innovative, open-source design framework crafted to deliver UI components that evoke a uniquely satisfying visual harmony. This project represents a culmination of my passion for aesthetic balances and user interface excellence, and I am excited to share it with the WordPress and broader developer communities.

Background and Inspiration

As a freelance database administrator operating under the brand Chainlift, I previously gained some visibility through a YouTube video titled “The Secret Science of Perfect Spacing,” which garnered attention within the UI design sphere. The positive response to this content fueled my desire to develop a comprehensive system that embodies these principles. LiftKit is the resultโ€”a versatile, adaptable design toolkit rooted in a global scaling mechanism based on the golden ratio, ensuring consistent and pleasing proportions throughout user interfaces.

What LiftKit Offers

Currently available for Next.js and React, LiftKit is in its early stages but provides a robust foundation for creating visually engaging applications. Key features include:

  • Dynamic Theme Management: An intuitive GUI built with Material 3’s dynamic color system allows developers to effortlessly customize themes to match brand identities or user preferences. See it in action.

  • Global Scaling Based on the Golden Ratio: Ensures component coherence and aesthetic appeal through a mathematically grounded scaling method.

  • Open-Source Accessibility: Fully available on GitHub, enabling developers to adapt, extend, and contribute to the project.

Future Developments

Looking ahead, my priorities include launching a live playground environment where users can experiment with components directly and gathering feedback from the community
