Built ListLinkd: one place for books, films & shows. The journey so far + what’s next (need advice!)

Introducing ListLinkd: Your All-in-One Platform for Books, Films, and Shows — The Journey So Far and Future Plans

During my university summer break, I dedicated time to a personal passion project driven by a simple yet profound problem: I love tracking what I read and watch, but switching between multiple apps and platforms was becoming increasingly frustrating. From this experience, I developed ListLinkd, a unified, straightforward platform designed to streamline how enthusiasts log, track, rate, and discover books, movies, and TV shows—all in one convenient place.

The Birth of ListLinkd

Initially, I launched ListLinkd quietly, aiming to test its viability without much fanfare. Within just two weeks, over 280 users had tried the platform. Interestingly, about half of these were anonymous visitors exploring without creating an account, thanks to an early feature that allowed exploration without registration. After deciding to encourage more committed usage, I removed this feature. Since then, I’ve registered around 111 active users—an encouraging number considering I haven’t promoted it heavily, but enough to make me proud that people are engaging with something I built.

Marketing and User Engagement

My promotional efforts primarily took place on Reddit and Twitter during those initial weeks. After a brief hiatus—over a month during which the platform sat dormant—I periodically checked back and was pleased to see consistent new sign-ups and active usage. Such organic growth, though modest, reinforced my belief in the platform’s potential.

Recognizing the Challenges

However, I acknowledge the fierce competition from well-established platforms like Goodreads and Letterboxd — communities that benefit from massive network effects. Gaining users who are already embedded within these ecosystems is a significant challenge, especially since many have hundreds of logged entries. Convincing someone to switch to ListLinkd requires offering compelling reasons and unique features.

What’s Next for ListLinkd?

To differentiate ListLinkd from other tracking tools and foster a vibrant community, I’m working on several new features focused on social engagement, user identity, and seamless switching:

  • Enhanced Show Tracking: Users will be able to log progress by season and episode, making TV show tracking more precise.
  • Community Discussions: Inspired by Reddit, users can initiate discussions around books, films, and shows, transforming static reviews into lively conversations.
  • Profiles, Badges & Challenges: Introducing profile badges, reading streaks, binge marathons, and seasonal challenges to encourage ongoing participation and fun
