How would you define artificial intelligence (AI)?

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence processes by computer systems. These processes include learning (the acquisition of information and rules for using it), reasoning (the ability to derive conclusions from the information), and self-correction.

AI can be categorized into two primary types: narrow AI, which is designed to perform specific tasks (like voice assistants, image recognition systems, or chatbots), and general AI, which aims to understand and learn any intellectual task that a human can perform. While narrow AI is prevalent in today’s technology and widely used in various applications, general AI remains largely theoretical and is the subject of ongoing research.

AI techniques include machine learning, where algorithms improve through experience, and deep learning, which involves neural networks with many layers that can analyze large amounts of data. The applications of AI are vast, spanning industries such as healthcare, finance, transportation, entertainment, and more, leading to significant advancements and efficiencies. However, ethical considerations and responsibilities surrounding AI’s use and impact continue to be important discussions in the field.
