Introducing LiftKit: An Open-Source Design System Inspired by the Golden Ratio
After dedicating over a year and a half to developing a unique approach to user interface design, I’m excited to unveil my latest project—LiftKit. This innovative design system aims to deliver UI components that evoke a sense of “oddly satisfying” harmony, rooted in the timeless principles of the golden ratio.
Journey Behind the Creation
As a freelance database administrator operating under the brand Chainlift, I’ve always been passionate about crafting compelling digital experiences. Last year, I created a short YouTube video titled The Secret Science of Perfect Spacing, which garnered some attention within the UI design community. The response to that content motivated me to transform my ideas into a functional, open-source framework—leading to the birth of LiftKit.
What is LiftKit?
LiftKit is an adaptable, open-source design toolkit built for developers working with Next.js and React. Its core philosophy revolves around a global scaling system based entirely on the golden ratio, ensuring that every UI element feels naturally balanced and pleasing to the eye. This outcome isn’t accidental—it’s built into the system’s foundation.
Key Features and Highlights
- Harmonic Scaling: Every component and layout adjusts seamlessly, guided by a consistent scaling approach rooted in the golden ratio.
- Theme Customization: Includes an integrated theme manager with Material 3 dynamic color support, accessible via an intuitive graphical user interface.
- Early Access: While still in the nascent stages, the system offers enough functionality to inspire creativity and experimentation.

Future Directions
My immediate goals include developing an interactive playground where users can test and visualize app examples built with LiftKit. Additionally, I am eager to gather feedback from the community to refine and expand the system’s capabilities.
