In a recent experience that has left me both bewildered and concerned, I sought the advice of ChatGPT regarding a simple question about the appropriate type of sandpaper to use for a project. What I received, however, was far from the straightforward answer I expected. Instead, I was presented with detailed information pertaining to the drug test results of an individual located hundreds of miles away from me.
Upon further investigation, I was shocked to discover that the response included a document containing signatures and various personal details. The discovery has raised significant alarm bells for me, as I feel uneasy about the implications of such a breach of privacy.
As a precaution, I have refrained from sharing the specific chat transcript in its entirety. My main concern is to avoid unintentionally disseminating someone else’s sensitive information. The privacy of individuals must always be respected, and I have no desire to perpetuate this situation.
In addition, I’ve taken measures to remove portions of my communication where I inquired, “What information do you know about me?” Upon reflection, this prompted the AI to share personal data that I’d rather keep private. Although I remain skeptical about the accuracy of what ChatGPT relayed—what some may refer to as “hallucinations”—I took the time to look up the names mentioned in the response, and they appear to correspond with real individuals and their respective locations.
To clarify, in this chat session, I addressed ChatGPT by the name “Atlas,” hence my references to that name.
