Behind the Scenes: Building Griply

The development process involved constructing both web and desktop versions from scratch, leveraging robust technologies to ensure performance and flexibility. The front-end was primarily built using React, with TypeScript adding stability and clarity. For the calendar component, fullcalendar was incorporated, supplemented by custom drag-and-drop functionality via react-dnd. The backend employs Firebase’s Firestore, offering real-time updates and offline support, complemented by Cloud Functions to handle specific logic such as recurring reminders via RRuleJS.

One of the more complex challenges was managing recurring habit notifications across different time zones. The implementation relied on UTC calculations, which, while effective, highlighted potential improvements for future iterations.
