Hired a SEO pro, am worse off

Disappointed with My SEO Investment: Lessons from a Roofing Business Owner

As a roofing business owner in Houston, navigating the complexities of Digital Marketing has proven to be more challenging than I anticipated. Approximately a year ago, I decided to invest in a professional SEO service to enhance my online presence, hoping to boost my rankings on Google and attract more customers.

Working with this SEO specialist was a pleasant experience; he was friendly and professional. However, I am hesitant to disclose his name out of respect for the collaboration. Initially, my business had a modest online visibility, often appearing on the first page of search results, which helped in gaining a few new clients.

Unfortunately, after the SEO services were implemented, the keywords associated with my website shifted significantly. Previously, my site would rank well for terms like “roofer near me,” which is critical for attracting the majority of my clientele. Now, however, my visibility seems to revolve around phrases like “gutters and siding contractor near me,” which doesn’t align with my primary focusโ€”roofing services (which accounts for 90-95% of my business). While my website does mention other services such as siding and painting, roofing remains my principal offering.

Recognizing that the SEO landscape is fiercely competitive, I’ve come to realize that my lack of technical expertise in this area has left me feeling overwhelmed and at a standstill. Despite being a five-star service provider with a strong track record of customer satisfaction, I continue to receive feedback that my website contains inaccuracies and that I’m not appearing prominently in searches.

This has raised a myriad of concerns for me. With the realization that my current approach may not be yielding the desired results, I’m contemplating hiring another SEO company to take over the reins. However, I’m grappling with uncertainty about whether this new partnership will turn out better or if I might risk wasting additional time and resources.

In sharing my experience, I hope to shed light on the complexities of SEO and the importance of aligning your online strategy with your businessโ€™s core services. If you’re in a similar predicament, it’s essential to carefully evaluate potential SEO partners and be clear about your business objectives. Ultimately, maintaining a strong foothold in the competitive market of roofing requires not only effective marketing strategies but also a commitment to continually refining them as needed.
