Embracing a New Path: My Journey from Aspiring Designer to Dedicated Developer
In a rapidly evolving world where creativity and technology intersect, it’s natural to find ourselves at a crossroads in our professional lives. Today, I want to share a personal turning point in my journeyโone that has led me to embrace a new direction.
Back in 2020, I proudly graduated with a degree in computer engineering. Full of ambition and hope, I set out to secure a job in a field where I believed I could thrive. Unfortunately, the job market was not favorable, and my efforts did not yield the results I had hoped for. Rather than give in to discouragement, I decided to explore other avenues, particularly in the realm of design.
Throughout my life, I had received ample praise for having an innate sense of aesthetics and a keen eye for beauty. This encouragement nudged me toward pursuing design, and during that summer, I delved deep into Figma, absorbing every tutorial and striving to master the software. My goal was clear: to translate my passion for design into tangible skills.
As I began to create graphic designs and original works, I encountered a significant hurdleโI was never able to find satisfaction in my creations. While I could easily replicate admired designs seen on platforms like Dribbble, the act of producing something uniquely mine felt daunting. This struggle led me to a state of discontent and self-doubt.
I initially chalked up my feelings to burnout, prompting me to take a month-long hiatus from design. Unfortunately, upon my return, I realized little had changed. Meanwhile, my programming pursuits continued to bring me joy and fulfillment. I found that coding was an engaging process for me, one that invigorated my creative spirit rather than exhaust it.
Ultimately, after much reflection, I’ve come to a significant decision: I will shift my focus away from trying to force myself into the creative role of a designer and instead embrace my identity as an admirer of design while honing my skills as a developer. Rather than feeling guilty for stepping back, I recognize the importance of playing to my strengths and following my passions.
This blog post serves not only as a means of sharing my journey but also as a reminder that it’s perfectly acceptable to re-evaluate our paths in the face of challenges. Career trajectories are rarely linear, and embracing change can lead to fulfilling new opportunities. If you find yourself in a similar situation, know that youโre not alone. Hereโs to new beginnings and the
