I spent 18 months building a design system that makes UI’s feel “oddly satisfying.” Now it’s open source!

Introducing LiftKit: An Open-Source Design System Crafting โ€œOddly Satisfyingโ€ User Interfaces

After dedicating over a year and a half to developing a innovative design framework, I am excited to announce the launch of LiftKitโ€”an open-source UI component library designed to deliver a uniquely satisfying visual experience.

Background and Inspiration
As a freelance database administrator operating under the brand Chainlift, Iโ€™ve always had a passion for creating appealing and intuitive interfaces. Last year, I shared a YouTube video titled “The Secret Science of Perfect Spacing,” which garnered notable attention within the UI design community. That moment of interest inspired me to develop a comprehensive design system that embodies these principles, resulting in LiftKit.

What Is LiftKit?
LiftKit is a thoughtfully engineered design system built to make UI components feel โ€œoddly satisfying.โ€ At its core is a global scaling framework rooted in the golden ratio, ensuring proportions that are naturally pleasing to the eye. Currently, the system supports Next.js and React environments, offering developers a versatile foundation for creating engaging interfaces.

Key Features and Highlights
Dynamic Theme Management: Includes a built-in theme control interface that leverages Material 3โ€™s dynamic color capabilities for seamless customization (see demo).
Intuitive Components: A suite of UI elements designed for consistency and visual appeal, with an emphasis on satisfying proportions.
Open-Source Access: Fully accessible via GitHub, encouraging community contributions and collaborative development.

Upcoming Developments
Looking ahead, the primary goals include introducing a live playground environment where users can experiment with real-time examples, as well as gathering valuable feedback from the community to enhance the system further.

While LiftKit is currently at version 1.0.0 and still in its early stages, I believe it offers a compelling starting point for designers and developers interested in creating more satisfying and harmonious user experiences
