I spent 18 months building a design system that makes UI’s feel “oddly satisfying.” Now it’s open source!

Introducing LiftKit: An Open-Source Design System Inspired by the Golden Ratio

After dedicating over a year and a half to developing a unique UI experience, I am thrilled to unveil LiftKitโ€”a comprehensive, open-source design system designed to create interfaces that feel “oddly satisfying.” This project stems from my passion for aesthetic harmony and user-centric design, inspired in part by a viral YouTube exploration into perfect spacing.

Who Am I?

I’m a freelance database administrator operating under the name Chainlift. Some of you may have come across my recent YouTube video, “The Secret Science of Perfect Spacing,” which garnered a brief but passionate response from the UI design community. This feedback motivated me to translate that concept into a practical, reusable system aiming to elevate your design workflows.

What Is LiftKit?

LiftKit is an innovative UI toolkit that leverages a distinctive global scaling mechanism rooted in the golden ratio. By doing so, it ensures that components across your application feel intrinsically balanced and harmoniousโ€”what some might describe as “oddly satisfying.” Currently, the system is compatible with Next.js and React, making it easy to integrate into your projects.

Key Features

  • Dynamic Theming: An integrated theme controller with Material 3’s dynamic color capabilities, allowing you to customize and experiment with aesthetic variations effortlessly.
  • Open Source & Community-Driven: Available on GitHub, encouraging collaboration and contribution from developers and designers alike.
  • Visual Demonstrations: See LiftKit in action through various visual examples and tutorials available on our landing page and documentation site.

Upcoming Plans

Our immediate goals include developing an interactive playground where you can experiment with sample applications built using LiftKit. Additionally, gathering feedback from the community is a top priority to refine and expand the system further.
