Introducing LiftKit: An Open-Source Design System That Delivers “Oddly Satisfying” UI Experiences
Over the past 18 months, Iโve dedicated myself to developing a unique design system aimed at creating user interfaces that feel “oddly satisfying.” Today, I am excited to announce that this system, named LiftKit, is now publicly available as an open-source project.
Background and Inspiration
As a freelance database administrator operating under the name Chainlift, I gained a bit of recognition last year with a YouTube video titled โThe Secret Science of Perfect Spacing.โ The video garnered some attention within the UI design community and sparked a wave of interest. Inspired by this response, I decided to expand the concept into a comprehensive, usable design systemโLiftKitโnamed after my business.
What Makes LiftKit Unique?
LiftKit is crafted to evoke a sense of visual delight and harmony by employing a global scaling approach rooted in the golden ratio, a mathematical principle long appreciated for its aesthetic appeal. The systemโs components and layout are meticulously designed to create subtle yet satisfying interactions and proportions across the interface.
Current Features and Compatibility
The first official release supports both Next.js and React frameworks, making it accessible for a wide range of web projects. While the system is still in its early stages of development, it offers a variety of features designed to enhance your design process, including:
- An intuitive theme control panel with Material 3 dynamic color integration, demonstrated in this video demo.

Looking Ahead
Upcoming priorities include developing a live playground where you can test and experiment with different app configurations built with LiftKit, as well as gathering feedback from the developer and designer communities.
While this version is just the beginningโversion 1.0.0โit embodies a bold step toward creating more satisfying
