Showcasing a Modern Multilingual B&B Website Powered by Astro

Today, I’m excited to share my latest project—a comprehensive website overhaul for a cozy Bed & Breakfast that combines cutting-edge technology with elegant design. After months of development, I’ve transitioned from WordPress to a static site generated with Astro, bringing new features and improved performance to the forefront.
Project Highlights and Features
- Multilingual Support: Fluent in both English and French, with seamless language switching to cater to a diverse audience.
- Booking System Integration: Incorporated a booking widget via FreeToBook, simplifying reservation management for visitors.
- Email Marketing: Connected Mailchimp to maintain engagement through newsletters and updates.
- Engaging Content: Maintains a lively blog to share updates, stories, and local highlights.
- Visual Appeal: Features a stunning parallax gallery that offers an immersive browsing experience.
- Modern Web Enhancements: Utilized Astro’s capabilities, including smooth view transitions and responsive images, to elevate user interactions.
Technical Journey and Challenges
Migrating over 100 pages, including blog posts, from WordPress to a new static site was no small feat. I relied on a WordPress export-to-Markdown tool to speed up the process, but it required considerable post-export cleaning due to inconsistent Markdown syntax, broken links, and outdated content. To address this, I incorporated MDX for custom components, which proved invaluable for adding rich features within Markdown files.
One of the trickiest parts was managing internationalization—particularly ensuring proper navigation, SEO optimization, and hreflang tags—to offer a flawless multilingual experience.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I’m extremely pleased with how this project turned out. The combination of Astro’s modern features with robust content management solutions creates a fast, beautiful, and user-friendly website.
