I’m currently in the midst of organizing a voting system for an upcoming people’s choice car show, and I could really use some advice. This year, we anticipate around 250 stunning cars and approximately 2,000 attendees, which means we need an efficient way to collect votes. Historically, we’ve relied on paper ballots, but as attendance and the number of cars have grown, the manual counting process has become quite overwhelming.
The setup on my website includes a dedicated page listing all the categories. Users can simply click on a category and cast their vote directly through an embedded polling tool. Ideally, I’d like to keep the voting process as simple as possible, so I’d prefer to avoid requiring users to log in.
I initially considered using CrowdSignal for the voting mechanism. However, I encountered an issue during testing where one of my friends was able to vote multiple times, despite the settings being configured for one response per device. It appears that, for some reason, her iPhone using Safari is bypassing the cookie restrictions and allowing her to vote repeatedly.
I’m also concerned about running out of features with a free SurveyMonkey account, and I’d rather not commit to a full year subscription for a single event.
Another option I looked into was Sogolytics. While their interface is impressive, I found that they don’t allow for single response surveys, which is what we need. The multiple-choice polls offered there also have a limitation of only 150 choices.
As for Google Forms, it requires participants to sign in with a Google account to ensure one response per voter. While I appreciate the ability to change responses, I’m unsure if this would be the best fit for our audience.
