Update 5: my official response to that website’s legal threats and a theory as to why they are so obsessed with removing links to their site

Addressing Legal Threats: My Response and a New Theory on Link Obsession

In the ever-evolving landscape of online content and digital marketing, navigating legal threats can be a daunting task for any website owner. Recently, I found myself at the center of a legal dispute with a particular website regarding the links I had included to their site. Below is my latest update on this situation, along with a compelling theory regarding their unusual insistence on link removal.

Context Recap

To provide some background, you can check out my earlier communications, including their initial threat and my responses, which are linked here: Original Email, My First Response, Their Response, My Second Response, and Their Legal Notice.

My Official Response

In my latest correspondence, I decided to approach their legal threats with a touch of humor and propose a peace offering. Since they allege that I am linking to their site without authorization, I suggested they could eliminate the need for my links altogether by voluntarily taking down their website. After all, fair is fair! To top it off, I included an invoice for a $100 Email Processing Fee, which they inadvertently agreed to by sending me their last email. Will they pay up? Time will tell, but I wouldnโ€™t bet on it.

A Theory on Their Motivations

User u/hitoq introduced an intriguing theory that might explain why this website seems overly obsessed with erasing what they label as โ€œunauthorizedโ€ links. This theory suggests that the site is engaging in the business of selling backlinks as an SEO service. This aligns with the fact that the CEO of their website also runs an SEO marketing company. Given my site has relatively low domain authorityโ€”largely due to my lack of proactive SEO maintenanceโ€”it appears they have identified it as a less-than-ideal site to be linked to.

Interestingly, my website focuses on travel information, complementing their service, which specifically deals with travel visa details. Therefore, my links are not intended to be harmful
