Letโs Talk About Trustpilot: Is It Time to Move On?
As a Frontend Developer for a company that once enjoyed a solid reputation on Trustpilot, I feel compelled to discuss some troubling experiences we had with the platform that ultimately led us to part ways with it about a year ago.
One of the first things that struck me was how difficult it is to remove a business profile from Trustpilot. The platform promotes itself as a champion of transparency, but the truth is, some of their practices raise serious red flags.
Hereโs how it typically plays out: dissatisfied customers often flock to Trustpilot to share their grievances, leaving behind heartfelt one-star reviews. While itโs fair that these voices are heard, we found ourselves in an awkward position: wanting to encourage satisfied customers to leave positive feedback as well.
However, when we attempted to link our clients to our Trustpilot profile for reviews, we hit a roadblock. Trustpilot informed us that promoting our profile without paying a fee was against their rules. This effectively means that if you want to gather reviews from loyal customers, youโll have to fork over some cash.
And speaking of costs, paying โฌ500 a month for the privilege of collecting a limited number of reviews feels exorbitant, particularly considering the indifferent service and subpar product they provide. Whatโs worse is the “Customer Success Manager” assigned to guide us, who bombarded me with overly enthusiastic messages about how we could tag reviews or utilize their API for filtered results. Yes, an API that offers filtered resultsโgroundbreaking! They seemed thrilled that we resumed our subscription, but I was left shaking my head.
We’re currently formulating a plan to exit Trustpilot for good, and I encourage others to consider doing the same. Trustpilot contributes to the degradation of online experiences, all while profiting handsomely from it. Itโs time we collectively rethink our reliance on such platforms.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Letโs push for a better way to manage online reviews and foster genuine feedback!

In conclusion, your frustrations with Trustpilot highlight a broader issue with platform dynamics in the digital age. By diversifying your review strategies, encouraging direct feedback, and maintaining proactive communication with customers, you can build a more resilient and transparent business model. While Trustpilot has become a go-to for many, it’s important to explore options that align better with your values and operational goals. Thank you for your candid discussionโitโs conversations like this that help shed light on industry practices and drive change.
Thank you for sharing your experiences regarding Trustpilot; it’s important to shed light on these issues as they impact both businesses and consumers alike. Your observations about the platform’s practices resonate with many in the industry who feel trapped by the seemingly contradictory nature of online review systems.
One significant aspect to consider is the potential shift towards decentralized review platforms that prioritize transparency and genuine feedback without the financial barriers posed by traditional sites like Trustpilot. Emerging technologies, such as blockchain, could provide a solution by ensuring that reviews are immutable and trustworthy. This could empower businesses to collect authentic customer experiences without the influence of paid services that may dilute the true sentiment of consumer feedback.
Moreover, businesses can explore alternative strategies for gathering reviews, such as leveraging social media, email campaigns, or even Google Reviews, which offer a more organic method for engagement without the same cost concerns. Encouraging direct feedback through your channels can not only enhance customer relations but also create a more balanced and authentic portrayal of your services.
Ultimately, your call to re-evaluate our reliance on platforms like Trustpilot is timely. As we advocate for more equitable systems for sharing feedback, collaboration within the community to support platforms that prioritize integrity over profit will be essential for fostering a healthier online landscape for both businesses and customers. Thank you for initiating this important conversation!
