Does the Fear of Unexpected Cloud Service Bills Keep You Awake at Night?
Creating a portfolio can be challenging, especially when you have a multitude of images to manage. Embedding all these images directly into the codebase feels cumbersome and inefficient.
The ideal solution seems to be utilizing services like AWS S3, Cloudflare’s R2, or Google Cloud Storage. Using my company’s credit card does not bother me ๐.
However, using my own credit card details with these services terrifies me to the point of losing sleep (perhaps I’m just too cautious).
Does anyone else share this anxiety?
Edit:
I’ve decided to go with Cloudflare R2 and I’m crossing my fingers that I won’t have a reason to vent about it on Hacker News or Twitter in the future.

It’s completely understandable to have concerns about unexpected charges from cloud providers, especially when you’re using your personal credit card. The unpredictability of cloud costs can indeed feel daunting, particularly for those of us who have experienced the shock of a sudden spike in usage.
One approach to mitigate this anxiety is to set budgets and pricing alerts through the cloud service console. Most major providers, including AWS and Google Cloud, offer tools that allow you to monitor usage and receive notifications when you’re approaching your budget limits. Additionally, exploring the pricing models thoroughly can uncover options like reserved instances or savings plans that can provide more predictable costing.
Your decision to choose Cloudflare R2 seems promising, especially with its competitive pricing structure and integration capabilities. Just remember to keep an eye on your usage and adjust as necessaryโmany users find it helpful to review their cloud expenses regularly to avoid any surprises. Sharing insights on your experience with R2 could also help others who might be in a similar position. Wishing you a smooth journey with your cloud storage solution!
