Finding Marketing Help For Small Local Business: Beauty Industry

Seeking Marketing Assistance for Our Local Beauty Business

We are proud owners of a well-established beauty business in California, offering waxing, lash, and eyebrow services since 2012. Our reputation is solid, as reflected in our excellent Google and Yelp reviews.

However, in the last 18 months, we’ve experienced a 15% decline in clientele. I consulted with our accountant, who noted that while many businesses are facing a general downturn due to economic conditions, there are effective strategies to boost customer traffic. His advice was to reevaluate our marketing efforts.

Currently, we invest in paid Google Ads and typically secure top rankings. While we receive some traffic from Yelp without paying for ads, our presence on Instagram is minimal, and our Facebook page has low engagement. Google Ads are currently our only paid advertising channel.

Iโ€™m reaching out for advice: If we want to revamp our marketing strategy, where should we begin? If we decide to hire a professional, how can we find someone affordable and trustworthy?

  1. It sounds like you have a solid foundation with your established beauty business, and itโ€™s great that youโ€™re looking to pivot your marketing strategy! Here are some steps you can take to evaluate and enhance your marketing efforts while also considering hiring a professional:

    1. Assess Your Current Marketing Efforts:

    • Analyze the Data: Review your Google Ads performance. Are you getting clicks but not conversions? Look at your website metrics (bounce rate, conversion rate) to understand where potential clients might be dropping off.
    • Social Media Audit: Evaluate your Instagram and Facebook accounts. Are you engaging with your audience? Are you using relevant hashtags and engaging with local beauty communities? Consider creating a posting schedule for consistency.

    2. Expand Your Marketing Channels:

    • Content Marketing: Start a blog on your website sharing beauty tips, trends, or client testimonials. This can improve SEO and establish your authority in the industry.
    • Email Marketing: If you donโ€™t have one yet, consider collecting emails from clients to send newsletters, promotions, tips, and client success stories.
    • Local Partnerships: Collaborate with local businesses (gyms, spas, cafes) for cross-promotions or events. This can expand your reach in the community.
    • Community Engagement: Consider sponsoring local events or participating in community health and beauty fairs to boost visibility.

    3. Social Media Strategy:

    • Regular Posting: Start posting consistently and engaging with followers. Share before-and-after images, behind-the-scenes content, and client testimonials.
    • Instagram Stories and Reels: Utilize Instagram Stories and Reels to showcase your services, promote special offers, or educate your audience.

    4. Hiring a Marketing Professional:

    • Define Your Needs: Determine what specific help you needโ€”social media management, SEO, content creation, etc. This will help you find someone with the right expertise.
    • Budget Considerations: Decide on a budget that works for you. Some professionals offer hourly rates, while others may work on a project basis.
    • Seek Recommendations: Ask fellow business owners for referrals. Look for professionals or agencies that have experience in the beauty industry or with small local businesses.
    • Check Reviews: Look at their reviews, case studies, or success stories. Verify their claims by reaching out to past clients if possible.
    • Trial Period: Consider starting with a smaller project or a trial period to evaluate their skills before committing to a long-term contract.

    5. Trust Your Instincts:

    • Communication: Choose someone who communicates clearly and understands your vision. Trust your instincts regarding whether they align with your business values and goals.
    • Transparency: Make sure they provide a clear plan of action and are transparent about their strategies and expected outcomes.

By taking these steps, youโ€™ll be able to develop a more comprehensive marketing strategy that not only attracts new clients but also retains your loyal customer base. Good luck!

  2. It’s great to see you taking proactive steps in addressing the challenges your beauty business is facing! Given your solid reputation, I believe there are several avenues you could explore to revitalize your marketing strategy.

Firstly, enhancing your social media presence, particularly on Instagram, could significantly benefit your brand. This platform is essential for the beauty industry, as it allows you to showcase your services through eye-catching visuals and engage with your audience through stories and reels. Consider collaborating with local influencers or beauty bloggers to tap into their audience and increase your visibilityโ€”often, they may be willing to work on a barter basis.

Secondly, customer retention strategies can be just as crucial as acquisition. Consider implementing a loyalty program or referral discounts to incentivize your existing customers to return and bring friends along. Pairing this with personalized email marketing campaigns can keep your clients engaged and informed of any promotions or new services.

Finally, regarding hiring professional help, look into local marketing agencies or freelance professionals who specialize in small business marketing. Websites like Upwork or LinkedIn can help you find freelancers with good reviews. You might also consider attending local business networking eventsโ€”this can help you forge connections and find potential marketing partners who understand the community’s needs.

By diversifying your strategies and leveraging your existing client base, you can create a robust marketing approach that not only attracts new clientele but also fosters loyalty among your current customers. Best of luck, and I’m excited to see how your business evolves!
